How we choose what to recommend
We recommend MyHeritage first for French research because it owns the French genealogy company Filae and offers extensive French civil and church record collections together with a large European DNA database. Where another service is the better fit for a particular job, such as the free departmental archives, FamilySearch for free indexed records, or AncestryDNA for finding North American cousins, we say so plainly. We do not receive compensation for links to free or nonprofit resources such as the departmental archives and FamilySearch.
